Professor Reza Moheimani

Professor and James Von Ehr Distinguished Chair

Reza Moheimani joined the University of Texas at Dallas in 2015, where he established and directs the Laboratory for Dynamics and Control of Nanosystems in the Jonsson School of Engineering and Computer Science. He currently holds the James Von Ehr Distinguished Chair in Science and Technology, and is a Professor in the Department of Systems Engineering, Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering and the Department of Mechanical Engineering. Prior to joining the UTD, he was a Professor and Australian Research Council Future Fellow in the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the University of Newcastle, Australia. During his 17 years with University of Newcastle, he established a research program in the area of high-precision mechatronic systems with significant national and international collaborations and served as Associate Director of Centre for Complex Dynamic Systems and Control (CDSC), an Australian Research Council Centre of Excellence.

His research has ranged across many areas including robust control theory and robust state estimation of uncertain dynamic systems, applications of control and estimation in smart structures, active control of noise and vibration, and control of high-precision mechatronic systems. His current research interests include ultrahigh-precision mechatronic systems, with a particular emphasis on dynamics and control at the nanometer scale, including applications of control and estimation in nanopositioning systems for high-speed scanning probe microscopy and nanomanufacturing, modeling and control of microcantilever-based devices, control of microactuators in microelectromechanical systems, and design, modeling, and control of micromachined nanopositioners for on-chip scanning probe microscopy. Dr. Moheimani has published over 400 reviewed articles and 5 books and edited volumes.
